Deforestation. One big word. A word that destroys forests. That kills animals. That massacres biodiversity. That emits around 17% of greenhouse gases.
A tree is beautiful, but what’s more, it has a right to life; like water, the sun and the stars, it is essential. Life on earth is inconceivable without trees. Forests create climate, climate influences peoples’ character, and so on and so forth. There can be neither civilization nor happiness if forests crash down under the axe, if the climate is harsh and severe, if people are also harsh and severe. ... What a terrible future!
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov
Here's a story of a possible future
He walked down the bleak, grey street. The artificial tree on the roundabout loomed out and cast a shadow across the road. It was a poor attempt at livening up the street. The never-ending street. He smelled the emotionless air, drifting around an ocean of pavement and brick. The sky was dark and cold, boring into the dead earth. Everyone else was inside, scared of reports that global warming was taking it's toll. The ozone layer was evaporating. But this man was going outside. He was looking for any sign of beauty in nature. Any sign of life outside the humans grasp. With a tear he remembered the last forests, the animals running around, the birds soaring into the bright blue sky. The trees were all kept inside facilities now. Zoos were rare. The sky was bland, colourless. The world was dead. |

Did you know that deforestation contributes to around 17% of global warming every year?
These two issues are massive, and both of them harm our wildlife. Global warming may take its time, but deforestation rates are getting to a dangerous speed. The worlds rainforest's could vanish in hundred years.

Orangutans
A crisis exists for orangutans. In 2014, the Orangutan Conservancy believes that there are only around 40,000 orangutans in there natural habitat of Borneo and Sumatra. Horribly, the number was around 60,000 only a decade ago! Many experts believe that they could be extinct in the wild in as close as 25 years!
But how are there numbers dropping so rapidly?
Deforestation is killing them, leaving them with no food and no shelter. The two species of orangutan's, the Sumatran Orangutan which is critically endangered, and the Bornean Orangutan which is endangered, natural location are two small islands around Indonesia.

These orangutans share 97% of our DNA
We have to stop the massacre of our close relatives!
